At about 6 PM, there were about 1,885 homes and businesses in Long Beach Township and 761 in Ship Bottom that are effected, according to Atlantic City Electric's outage map.

By 6:35, the number had shrunk to about 1,000, all concentrated in Long Beach.

Ocean County Sheriff Mike Mastronardy said that the outage, in Long Beach, stretched from Ninth to 82 Streets.

According to Atlantic City Electric's main troubleshooter Nick Morici, downed wires in Long Beach triggered the entire outage. There are no reports of any car accidents that would have brought them down. Morici says that full power should be restored by 8 PM.
