I'd like to introduce you to Lauren. She attends Pinelands Regional High School in Little Egg Harbor. I recently received many emails concerning an upcoming event involving Lauren.

Lauren is just like any other teenager except for one thing, she's battling Leukemia. Lauren was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in June of 2011 and has been receiving treatment over the last year. After a very brief remission, she has relapsed and it was recently confirmed that it is in her bone marrow. It is aggressive and she is now in the fight of her life.

So now we move forward to this weekend. A group of Family and friends are hosting a "swabbing." You're probably wondering what that is. Swabbing is how doctors find a bone marrow match. It's simple and easy to do: A special sponge-tipped or soft brush swab is used to collect tissue from inside the cheek for testing.

This Saturday I urge everyone to try and make it to the "swabbing" because you never know who might actually be a match for a bone marrow donation.

I will be there Saturday and get tested to see if I am a match and if I am, I will donate marrow to Lauren. I also have a teenage daughter and understand how health is the number one concern of a parent, so it is the least I can do to help out this Family. It is what makes Ocean-Monmouth Counties a great place to live, helping out your neighbors!

So here are the details:

It's this Saturday, February 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at American Legion - Radio Road, Little Egg Harbor.

Please make an effort to stop by for this simple test to see if your a matching bone marrow donor.

You must be 18 to 60 years old and in good health.

I will have a follow up to this post to let you know how things turned out Saturday and hopefully I will have good news for you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Lauren and her family.
