HACKETTSTOWN — A mother who got drunk in her own home now risks losing custody of her children after they ran into the street to try to get her help.

State officials have taken custody the two brothers, ages 2 and 5, after their mother was charged with endangering their welfare.

Jamie Stollenmaier, 20, was found passed out in her bed, holding a 16 oz. can of Budweiser, after her boys ran out into the street Wednesday evening, police said.

Police were called about 5:39 p.m. after someone saw the boys run into the roadway. The boys said they couldn't wake up their mother, police said.

An officer said he detected the odor of alcohol on Stollenmaier's breath.

She was charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and was lodged in the Warren County Correctional Facility. The state Division of Child Protection and Permanency took custody of the children.

Stollenmaier could not be reached for comment Thursday afternoon.
