Lisa Zindell was just 30-years-old when she was killed as part of a murder-suicide by her ex-fiancee in August of 2009. Her death followed two months of domestic violence incidents, harassment and violations of a restraining order by the former fiancee, Frank Frisco, after the pair terminated their engagement in June.

He had just been released from jail when he killed Lisa and himself.

The fatal and well-publicized tragedy led a group of friends and family to launch "Lisa's Light Foundation," which focuses on raising awareness on the pitfalls of domestic violence, while offering a chance to remember Lisa.

"It's main purpose, keeping Lisa in everyone's minds, keeping her story out there," said Tara DeLorme, President and Founder.

The charity came together in late 2009, but has made great strides in just a few short years. "Lisa's Light" has raised money for larger organizations, such as Providence House, donated scholarships for young women, and assisted domestic violence outreach programs protect victims.

"We wanted something along the lines that we knew we could empower victims to become survivors," DeLorme said.

The group's main source of funding comes from two yearly events, an annual walk in March or April and a banquet dinner in October.

DeLorme said that the charity encompasses many aspects that were important to Lisa in her life, such as: children, families, education and helping others.

"It's all things we know that Lisa would like and appreciate, and it's all things that kind of tie into what was important to her when she was on this earth," she said.

Another is major initiative of "Lisa's Light Foundation" is working towards the passage of "Lisa's Law," named after the victim, which would create a four-year pilot program in Ocean County to electronically monitor defendants charged with or convicted of physically abusive domestic violence. The bill is currently stalled in the State Senate, but the group continues to push for the bill to make it Governor Christie's desk.

"We try to continue that legacy of what she would have done and what she would have wanted," she explained. "We hope that we make her proud and we hope that we do provide her family with some sort of peace."
