Random notes and thoughts following a truly spectacular mid-October weekend with more nice weather on tap for the next few days:

We are only three weeks away from Election Day and I get the feeling most Americans just want it to be over and frankly don’t care all that much who wins because the entire process of electing our next president has been a loser.

He’s a dynamic player as we saw on Sunday but Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is a loose cannon who gets coddled by teammates and coaches.

He still does dumb things on the field and on the sideline his behavior is at times out of control.  The only one who can stop Beckham is Beckham himself and Giant fans will have to live with the fact that each week you wonder if his antics will cross the line.

Since the high school football schedules were announced last spring some have pointed to this Friday’s Toms River North at Middletown South contest and the stage is now set for a meeting of the shore’s two top teams. The two defending state sectional champions are undefeated and the hype will build all week over the matchup between the Mariners and Eagles.  Our Shore Sports Network will be broadcasting the game live on Friday for those that can’t make it to what used to be called “The Swamp.”

Another retailer has given in to the urge to grab extra holiday cash.  Macy’s announced over the weekend they will open on Thanksgiving Day at 8 p.m. the first time they have opened on the holiday itself.  For the last few years Macy’s did open its doors at 12:01am on Black Friday but I guess the additional four hours brings in enough money to justify ruining the holiday for many workers, who can take their desert “to go.”

Macy’s is just the latest to jump on the early bandwagon which has become the norm among retailers
