I'm envious of Canadians right now.  Why?  Because they're doing away with the penny coin.  I've long thought that pennies were a waste of time and wallet/pocket space.  Why don't we follow our neighbors to the north and stop using pennies?  I've heard that it can cost more than $.02 to produce each of the copper coins.  If that's true then the math just doesn't add up.  Why are we spending more to produce something that's only worth one cent?

Here's an article that will tell you a little more about the move to go penniless.  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/04/canadian-penny-discontinued_n_2615919.html

To wean a nation off of the penny, cashiers' will have to round amounts to the nearest 5 cent increment.  Businesses would have to take the coins out of circulation.  I don't really think any of us would feel "short-changed" by this move.  Do you?

Would you like the penny to be taken out of circulation here in America?  Let us know in the Comments section below.
