LEH Man Found Guilty In Fatal Shooting of His Neighbor

A Little Egg Harbor man faces 50 years in prison after being found guilty of aggravated manslaughter in the shooting death of his next door neighbor. The Asbury Park Press reports that an Ocean County Jury found that 61-year-old Jay Goldberg manifested extreme indifference to human life by recklessly causing the death of 40-year-old Sarkis Shahinian in 2009.

Goldberg was also found guilty of maintaining a marijuana production facility in his Waters Edge Drive home along with other drug and weapons offenses. The jury however acquitted Goldberg of a more serious murder charge.

The two-week trial revealed that Goldberg shot Shahinian five times as the two argued about their joint marijuana-growing operation. Goldberg's Lawyer claimed it was self defense. Sentencing is scheduled for May 11th.
