The students get to try out-of-the-ordinary fruit and veggies with the help of a $170,000 Federal Grant issued by the State. Armida Caldwell, General Manager of the elementary school's food service provider Sodexo says they do a lesson plan about the fruit and vegetable of the week. She says "at the end of the school year when it gets nice and we'll go outside in the springtime, we'll do an A to Z salad bar and we'll represent every fruit and vegetable in the alphabet."

The initiative recently won recognition from the State Department of Agriculture as part of the Eat Right, Move More program.
