An alleged argument in Lakewood, that police say escalated into a fight that left one man dead this past summer, progresses to a possible murder trial ahead.

Filiberto Jimenez-Villanueva, 30, arrested July 16 in connection with the death of Adan Anaya-Morales, 57, was indicted by an Ocean County grand jury in Toms River on December 1, according to the office of County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato.

On the evening of July 12, Anaya-Morales was found unconscious in a Monmouth Avenue parking lot by a passer-by, who called township police. He died the following morning at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Investigators believe that an argument arose at about 6 PM. They allege that Jimenez-Villanueva knocked Anaya-Morales to the ground and left him there.

The autopsy report concluded that the death stemmed from massive head injuries. It was ruled a homicide.

Jimenez-Villanueva has been in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River since his arrest, on bail of $750,000, with no option for release on payment of 10 percent.

A conviction would mean a potential prison sentence of 30 years to life.
