An alert by state child-welfare officials leads to accusations that a a Lakewood man sexually assaulted a four-year-old girl, twice.

Belsay Guzman Hernandez, 53, was charged at Lakewood Police Headquarters Thursday with two counts each of aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of child.

According to information from the office of Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato, investigators on June 9 began looking into a referral from the Division of Child Protection and Permanancy. They ascertained that Hernandez and the preschooler had already been acquainted, authorities said.

In Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River, he was ordered into the Ocean County Jail in lieu of $150,000 full bail. Judge Wendel E. Daniels also ordered implementation of Nicole's Law guidelines, and no contact with the victim.

Investigators also contacted the U.S. Department of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to determine his residency status.
