A Lakewood husband who admitted taking part in a plan to coerce a religious divorce out of a Jewish man is sentenced to seven years in prison, and his wife who admitted complicity is given two years' probation.

David Wax, 53, and Judy Wax, 51, were sentenced in a Trenton federal courtroom today, according to the office of New Jersey U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman. The husband must also serve two years of parole supervision.

David Wax pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit kidnapping. Judy Wax pleaded guilty to misprision of a felony.

Investigators said that Wax got about $100,000 from the family of the vicitm's wife to obtain the "get," or religious divorce, and that his co-conspirators got about $50,000.

The husband admitted luring the victim from Brooklyn to his Lakewood home in October 2010 under the pretense of working on Talmudic books he claimed to be preparing for publication.

According to investigators, the victim was blindfolded, handcuffed, bound, and beaten by Wax and the rest of the suspects until he provided the get.

Judy Wax admitted helping her husband replace their carpet, soaked in the victim's blood, and neglecting to report the episode to authorities.
