A serious car crash that brought down electrical wires on Route 9 in Lacey Township sets up hasty detours and plunges more than 15-hundred homes and businesses into darkness.

The crash, reported shortly after 1 PM, involved a car that rammed a utility pole at the Laurel Boulevard intersection, according to the Ocean County Police, Fire and EMS Facebook page.

There is no immediate word of injuries, but the downed wires have affected 1,113 Jersey Central Power and Light customers in Lacey, and another 465 in Berkeley Township, according to the company's outage map.

Detours are in place, but the Parkway provides a nearby alternate.
