United Water's "ET" (EvapoTranspiration) program, during WOBM-AM 1160's "Bob and Marianne In The Morning," at the company's web page and at ours, offers a daily glimpse at soil moisture levels and lets you know whether you can give the sprinkler a rest.

Homeowners and residents in Toms River, South Toms River and Berkeley Township are in United Water Toms River's service area.

EvapoTranspiration gauges the effect of evaporation on soil and the effect of transpiration on plant moisture. The information is calculated into a daily ET number that designates how much water an average lawn needs based on daily weather conditions

The ET number, from 0 to 2, indicates the amount of water in inches for an average lawn, based on a generalization that sprinklers emit about an inch of water per hour.

The program, say United Water staffers, underscores the importance of water conservation while demonstrating best practices for healthy lawns and gardens through the heat of summer.

"This is another resource our customers will be able to use while conserving the Earth’s most precious natural resource,” said Jim Mastrokalos, Director of Operations.

“We’re pleased that together with United Water, WOBM will continue this important program for our community in order to better protect water resources and the environment,” said Greg Janoff, New Jersey Regional Vice President,Townsquare Media.

Bob and Marianne give out the ET Index each Monday through Thursday between 6 and 7 AM. United Water Toms River also carries it on its hotline, 732-349-0227 option 6.
