A Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst family is one of five finalist heading to Miami, Florida this week for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America's 5th annual Triple Play Fit Family Challenge.

The Blair family from McGuire Air Force Base in Burlington County will be required to navigate an obstacle course, a talent show and a quiz show this Friday. But what got them to this point was a six week program that focused on three main principles.

"The first one is mind. How do you look about food? What are you eating? What are your portion sizes? Are you eating healthy foods from each of the food groups?" says Mom Heather Blair.

She said it also focused on daily physical activity and spending quality family time.

However, the competition is not new to the Blair family. This is their second time as finalist which gives them an advantage according to Blair. She said her almost 10-year-old son and 11-year-old daughter had a big role in helping them fulfill the competition's principles.

"This year, since the kids kind of knew what to expect, they did a lot of the planning. They were like, okay, lets sit down, we're going to make the menu for the week Mom and then we'll grocery shop with you and then we're going to cook with you," said Blair.

But she said even if they don't win the entire competition, she feels like they've won already.

"I've already plugged our base youth program here and we're going to continue working the fit family through out the year, so when the challenge comes back up next year, we'll have a handful of families or more that want to do it with us."

The winners of it family get an all expense paid vacation to the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, along with gift baskets filled with prizes to help them continue their fitness goals.
