Joint Base Conducting Mortar Training This Week

Those loud booms that you may be hearing are a perfectly normal part of life in Ocean County.

No need to panic, it's just another training exercise at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

Officials say that two Army Infantry regiments will be participating in mortar training exercises throughout the week, until Sunday. You may hear the booming as early as 8am or as late at 8pm on any given day.

It's also worth noting that while you may be in an area where you don't normally hear the sounds of the Joint Base's routine training, when cloud cover takes over the area the sounds may travel further than usual.
