Join the International Coastal Cleanup [VIDEO]
Tomorrow is the third Saturday in September, and that means it’s time for another International Coastal Cleanup Day from Ocean Conservancy.
On this day, hundreds of thousands of volunteers worldwide comb lakes, rivers, and beaches for litter. Last year, people from 108 countries and 45 U.S. states removed more than seven million pounds of trash from the waterways.
Tomorrow on the beach in Belmar, dozens of concerned New Jersey citizens will join the state’s Sierra Club and Clean Communities to keep the oceans clear of harmful debris.

“Plastic trash and pollution is not only an eye sore, but harms our marine ecosystem, marine animals, and birds,” stated a Sierra Club press release. “It is dedicated individuals along with proposing legislation that can help protect our environment from this plastic pollution.”
Last year’s event in Asbury Park collected 564 cigarettes, 492 bottle caps, 417 straws and other trash.
