Jersey’s Minimum Wage Ballot Question Gets National Attention [AUDIO]

Question two on the ballot this November in New Jersey - on whether to raise the minimum wage to $8.25 an hour - is one of the most important ballot measures in the nation, according to the website Ballotpedia.

"Minimum wage increases are being talked about in five other states for next year, so whether public question two wins or loses is going to determine whether the groups in those states are really going to put it together and do that or whether they're going to decide no," says the Executive Director of the Lucy Burns Institute, the group that publishes Ballotpedia.

She says the ballot question is also significant enough that it will give a good reading on how the Garden State economy is doing.

"Typically, people who are wanting to see a minimum wage increase are not going to put something like that on the ballot when the economy is in a significant recession. It may have implications for whether the economy in New Jersey continues a little bit of a rebound that it's had."
