Jersey Shore businesses are prepping for the unofficial start to the summer season, Memorial Day weekend.

Less than two weeks to go before its madness at the shore and shops up and down the coast are gearing up.

“The unseasonably warm winter and spring has really helped sales, we are up so far this year,” said Michael, who runs a bar and restaurant on the Seaside Heights boardwalk.

Some businesses are up 30 to 40 percent before the start of summer.

“Easter was really good, we had a lot of sales and Mother’s Day was so warm a lot of people came out.”

Shirt shops are putting out merchandise earlier than ever and people strolling the boards are ready to spend.

“They are out and they are buying…some people are purchasing sale items, but some are buying the newer stuff we have out” said one store owner.

While the local sales have helped, businesses are anxiously awaiting the thousands of out-of-town visitors.

“It should be good if the weather is good…but we are confident in a good summer and good sales,” said Phil, who runs a tee-shirt shop on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights.

“Its all in Mother Nature’s hands” said another manager. “If we get the sun, people will come.”
