More and more we are being bombarded by phony telephone calls. All day long our phone rings and it's hardly a legitimate call. Both our house and cell phones! Now authorities here in Ocean and Monmouth Counties are warning residents about the latest phone scam.

According to 9th District legislators Christopher Connors, Brian Rumpf and Dianne Gove, the scam involves phony calls from individuals claiming to be from the Social Security Administration. It appears that many of the calls are coming from the "323" area code. The scammers pretend that the person they are contacting has a social security increase coming their way (cost of living increase) and all they need to do is verify all their vital personal information. Officials say that this would not happen and reps from social security would not ask for vital personal information via the phone.

So if you get a call like this, hang up and report the incident at 1-800-269-0271 or CLICK HERE to report online.
