JERSEY CITY — A  police officer took the plight of 9-year-old boy to heart and put together a super hero themed parade in his honor on Wednesday complete with a ride in the Batmobile.

Parth Patel is afflicted with Ewing sarcoma, a form of cancer in children and adolescents that forms a tumor in bone or soft tissue. He was first diagnosed in 2014 and has a very short period to live.

Officer Adrien Murrell, who was filling in as a school resource officer at the fourth grader's school, heard Patel's story and said she was "compelled me to want to do something for him."

The 9-year-old can no longer attend a full day of school so Murrell decided to organization a parade from Patel's home to school and spent so much time on the phone her phone ran out of power a few times.

"So many amazing people came together" to help her organize the parade. "I have to thank them a lot. They really came through for Parth."

Classmates, friends, first responders and police officers lined the route from Patel's home to School 27 with signs of support and lots of cheers. Parth rode with "Batman" in a Batmobile that led the parade. Afterwards, Murrell and Patel's family took a ride on the Hudson River in a fire department boat.

The parade was a surprise for Parth, who had been left to only guess in anticipation.

"He was so happy! He was excited. I just wanted to see him smiling and he did that so many times (Wednesday). That was rewarding for me," Murrell said.

Murrell also used the parade as a learning experience for her two daughters, ages 8 and 14. "They begged me for three days to help," Murrell said, adding that it was also the first time they saw their mom at work as a police officer.

Murrell came up with a super hero theme for the parade.

"That boy is a strong kid. Let me tell you something: When I was in his house he did not want us to know he was in pain. Obviously we knew it, but he didn't want to go to the hospital or lay in his hospital bed in the living room."

"I'm not taking credit for this. That was God's. His hand were all in this," Murrell said.
