Proceeds from the Pig Roast help pay for humanitarian programs the PBA sponsors all year, including Toys for Tots, according to Jackson Police Officer Fred Meabe.

"It helps purchase those items for needy families as well as providing meals to needy families through holidays," said Meabe. He added the funds also help provide school supplies, clothes and a coat drive.

The event is free for children age 8 and under, $20 for those ages 9 to 20, and $30 per person for those over age 21. There is an additional $5 fee at the gate on the day of the Pig Roast, but tickets can be purchased from any Jackson Police Officer who have tickets on hand for a discounted rate, according to Meabe.

Admission includes a live performance from the well-known Jersey Shore Band "Undisputed" and activities for children, including bounce houses, slides, obstacles and boardwalk games with prizes. There also will be paid raffles for bicycles and other items.

In addition to all the pork you can eat, hamburgers and hot dogs will be available.

"It's more like an outside, barbecue, summer bash-feel event," Meabe said, and encouraged people to bring tents.

The Pig Roast will be held rain or shine, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 22,  Pine Park on West County Line Road in Lakewood, near the Jackson border.
