The suspect in a Wednesday-night house robbery in Jackson cut it short when the residents arrived, but apparently didn't get far enough away to prevent them from giving a description to township police.

Investigators are looking for a Hispanic man, stocky build, late teens to early 20s in age, clean-shaven, with short hair on the sides and longer hair on top. He is believed to have been wearing a blue, long-style shirt with camouflage-colored cargo pants.

Officers responded to the West Pleasant Grove Road dwelling at about 7:41 PM. One inhabitant reported entering through the garage and finding a basement door inside open, light and noises rising from the cellar.

Other residents arrived, finding a rear flood light on in the basement, the basement door unlocked, and several rooms ransacked of personal items.

They began checking the property out to the perimeter. One who spotted the suspect in a wooded patch exchanged words with him before he tore off toward a new home construction site, police said.

Items missing from the house were found where the suspect stood, authorities said.

A search by a Plumsted PD K-9 team proved fruitless, but the investigation is still open. Anyone with information that can lead to an arrest can call Jackson Police at 732-928-1111.
