A Nearly 50 Year Old Jackson Business May Be Closing In 2018

I remember September 12, 2015 very well.

It was The Insane Inflatable 5K at Six Flags Great Adventure. I had Skycam 927, the WOBM drone high above the bouncing masses shooting video. I hadn't had the drone, a DJI Phantom 2, for very long and I had yet to add an all-important video screen to include not only images, but also aircraft status.

It all came together in a perfect storm of beginner's mistakes as the battery drained, the aircraft entered "return home" mode, and ended up in a tree. Here, you can watch for yourself right here.

When the 'copter finally came down from a couple hundred feet up at a plastic crushing rate, I knew that it wouldn't be an easy (or cheap) fix.

Right then and there, I called the Jackson Hobby Shop.

I actually ended up going to a different hobby shop. Not because of anything negative, but because the person who I spoke to at the Jackson Hobby Shop recommended a different hobby shop (and of course a competitor) for my particular issue.

To me, that's a true sign of people who care about their customers and their reputation and aren't just in the business to burn through people and make money. I was really impressed.

Sadly though, by the end of March, the nearly 50 year old Jackson mainstay may shutter for good.

News 12 and the Asbury Park Press are both reporting that owner Frank Gustafson will not be renewing the lease when it lapses in March.

According to the pair of news outlets, he's hoping to find a buyer who will keep the shop open, even offering to stick around the Bennetts Mills Plaza store as an employee, telling News 12, "I can help them out with it…I love to do repairs.”
