It's almost a rite of passage of living in Ocean County - you're headed out to Seaside Heights or Seaside Park and you suddenly see a line of brake lights. Before you know it, traffic has come to a halt. Yes, the drawbridge is open.

If you're lucky, you'll only be stuck there for maybe 5 to 10 minutes.

If you're unlucky, you'll get stuck there during one of the bridge's infamous malfunctions.

And of course you can't plan it. It's not like there's a public timetable for when the bridge will open up.

Maybe this time you'll get lucky. Maybe you won't.

We could have a debate all day long on the advantages and drawbacks of rebuilding the Eastbound side to match the Westbound side in height and do away with the drawbridge altogether, but in the meantime, I'm officially giving the Tunney-Mathis drawbridge my "one of the worst parts of going to the beach" award!
