Is Retirement an Outdated Concept? [AUDIO]

A new survey finds retirement is becoming more of an elusive dream these days, especially for those on the retirement doorstep.

Maritz research polled 1,000 recent retirees and near-retirees. Almost seven in 10 in the poll called retirement an, "outdated concept" while saying they intend to just keep on going.

Six in 10 say they have tapped into some financial advice from an expert. An expert says that's a very good idea,especially when it comes to investing.

"And it's important they get into the right kinds of assets and be properly diversified. So to get some advice is probably not a bad idea."

Rider University finance expert Maury Randall says the tough economy of the past six years has also impacted the amount of money retirees and near-retirees have to work with.

Some of the survey's key findings include:

69 percent of surveyed workers say retirement is an outdated concept and they plan to work after retirement.

61 percent of recent retirees establish a relationship with a financial adviser, up from 52 percent in 2005.

There has been a "sharp decline" in Americans' confidence in achieving fiscally sound retirement.
