Investigators Directed Embargo of Alleged Sex Attack, Says Toms River Schools Chief

Information about an alleged groping of a Toms River teacher inside Intermediate East last January was embargoed at the direction of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, according to a letter for parents from Superintendent Frank Roselli.

The message on the school's web page indicates that more details became public knowledge with the consent of new Prosecutor Joseph Coronato, who was not in the post at the time. Bruce Figular, 50, of Toms River, faces charges related to the episode.

Roselli relates that the absence of any student involvement was the main factor in the course of action. He notes that all standard protocols were in operation, including locked doors. Figular entered as some students were exiting for buses and, confronted by personnel, presented law enforcement identification and cited business with the teacher.

Roselli says that they've adjusted dismissal procedures.
