Did you hear about the guy who, to avoid paying the baggage fee, wore all his clothing and stuck a pair of sneakers in his pockets?  A 32 year old boarded an EasyJet plane wearing everything he felt he would need on vacation in Iceland.  Matt Botten from Wales boasted on Facebook about his "financially frugal" flight.

Apparently, it wasn't his original idea.  I read that last year, a member of a Scottish boy band passed out from heat exhaustion after layering lots of his clothing to avoid checking luggage.

While I'm a fan of saving money and being thrifty, I think these guys went too far. There's no way I could comfortably sit on a plane for hours wearing so much stuff.  Could you?

Paying for the freedom of not having to drag a suitcase around, to me, is worth the price.   I've been lucky that in all my years of flying, I've only had one case of lost luggage (which was delivered to me a couple days later) and one suitcase which was damaged in transit (which the airline had repaired.)  But I know lots of folks who NEVER check bags.  They don't want to risk the airline losing them.  And more than that, it seems, they don't like to wait for the bags to make their way off the plane and into the terminal.  They are devout "overhead binners," storing their carry-on case in the space above.

Do you pack light and bring your bag on the plane with you?  Or do you check your luggage and pick it up later at Baggage Claim?
