Insane ginormous NJ mansion, family fun park, million-gallon pool for $450K?
TUCKERTON — Got $450,000 for a new home? That's enough to get bidding on a "whimsical, 54-acre" property complete with its own million-gallon pool and a private family fun park.
The family compound at 5847 Route 9 will be put up for auction on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m., at the property.
It's got a storied history — first purchased in 2010 by Byung Taek Kim, chairman of the Taekwondo Association of Greater New York, to be turned into a summer shore retreat, according to Maltz auctions. In addition to the pool and fun park are a three-story watchtower and a footbridge.
"Motorists through the years have had the opportunity to watch the property evolve. How often do you get to purchase a home with this amount of fantastical history?” the company asked in an announcement of the auction.
Weird New Jersey profiled it as the "Fantastical Former Farmhouse of Route 9." It recounted how motorists have seen "strange, some might even say downright bizarre, things popping up along the roadside."
Those included "dragons, religious icons, cannons, dinosaurs and even the Statue of Liberty herself" alongside 7-foot-tall Transformers and "spear-toting Roman centurion knights on stallions." Google Street View finds dinosaurs and religious figures as well:
"The homestead, which is really more of a compound surrounded by a high salmon-colored stucco wall, is festooned with a weird menagerie of fanciful beasts and other figures," Weird New Jersey reported. For years, there were three tall flagpoles visible — two flying the U.S. Flag, and a third flying a Korean flag.
The main residence is more than 10,000 square feet, with six bedrooms and two baths. The property had previously been listed for more than $3.2 million.
Maltz describes it as a "one-of-a-kind" property. That doesn't seem like hyperbole.
Also on the property: A caretaker house with two apartments, a lighted tennis court, two private ponds stocked with bass and perch, two enclosed paddocks and a riding path, a greenhouse, a dog run, fountains and waterfalls.
