Infant set on fire in South Jersey road

The mother of an infant set afire on a South Jersey road has been charged with murder, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office.

Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier, 22, of Rutgers Avenue in Pemberton Township is being held on $500,000 bail at the Burlington County Corrections and Work Release Center in Pemberton.

According to Burlington County Prosecutor Robert Bernardi police responded to reports of a fire in the middle of Simontown Road around 11 p.m. and found the infant ablaze after being doused with an accelarant. Dorvilier was taken into custody while the baby was flown to Saint Christopher’s Hospital in Philadelphia, alive and breathing at that time. The baby died approximately two hours later.

The baby's age and gender have not been released. Bernardi would not comment on whether the mother has a criminal record or if she has been involved with child welfare officials.

Dave Joseph, 45, of Pemberton, told The Burlington County Times that he saw a young woman get out of her car and light something on fire in the middle of Simontown Road. He said Dorvilier told him she was burning dog waste. He told NBC 10 that when he heard a baby scream she tried to run off and then he and his wife saw it was a baby being burned.

"It's disheartening, like a nightmare what I saw out there," Joseph said.

Pemberton Police and the Prosecutor's Office continue to investigate the incident and what led to the fire.
