Remember watching the first season of "American Idol" when Kelly Clarkson was named the winner?  That show launched her career and as we all know she's an international pop star now.  We love playing her songs here on WOBM!

Wondering what happened to her runner up, Justin Guarini?  He's found a home on stage, performing in numerous Broadway musicals such as "Wicked," "Romeo and Juliet," and "American Idiot."

I just saw him at Bucks County Playhouse where he does an excellent job as "Bobby" in Stephen Sondheim's award winning musical "Company."  He leads the cast beautifully, playing a bachelor who all his friends want to see get married.   Never having seen Guarini act in anything before, I was curious how he would do as leading man.  It took only about two minutes for him to impress me with his acting chops.  This guy is a NATURAL on stage!

The whole cast is very talented, singing songs you'd recognize like "The Ladies Who Lunch," "Being Alive," and the fun, fast-paced "Getting Married Today."

Singers don't always succeed as actors but Justin Guarini shines on stage in New Hope.

Seeing him at the theatre got me thinking about other recording artists who are "double threats," acting as well as singing.   What singers have you enjoyed on stage, TV, or in the movies?  Here are few to get the list started:  Olivia Newton John in Grease, Justin Timberlake in "The Social Network" and "Friends With Benefits," and what about Barbra Streisand???   Please add the name of your favorite "singer turned actor" in the Comments section.
