As we get into our final week of qualifying for WOBM's "Vacation of a Lifetime" contest, I became inspired and just put the final touches on booking my very own vacation of a lifetime.

When we pick the destination choices for Vacation of a Lifetime, we always try to give three distinct choices. The goal is to get a relaxing tropical destination (this time around it's Jamaica), a family destination (Universal Orlando), and a true adventure (Rome).

When we narrowed down the options this time around, I was genuinely excited that we are able to offer a trip to Rome, a vacation that would truly be a once in a lifetime opportunity for most people, myself included.

In fact, I was kind of jealous, I would love to go to Rome!

So, well, I am!

Next month is a pretty big birthday for me, and I wanted to do something special.

It's been a long time since I've gone on a true globetrotting adventure vacation (about 6 years, to be exact!), and I felt like now is the time to hop on a plane and do something really cool.

I'd originally planned to go to London, which is truly my favorite city in the world. I figure that I know London, I know that I love it, I know how to get around, and I know the language (obviously) and am comfortable with the customs.

But that voice in the back of my head kept urging me to consider something truly once in a lifetime.

I'd reached out to Travelsmiths in Point Pleasant, who have been our official travel partners for Vacation of a Lifetime for years, to ask about a few options.

I wanted to ask about London, and just for the heck of it, I asked if going to Pompeii would be realistic.

Ever since I was a kid, I've been almost obsessed with Pompeii. I just find the story to be fascinating, and the fact that there is so much that is incredibly well preserved nearly 2,000 years later.

Let that sink in for a minute - 2,000 year old frescoes, buildings, streets, and gardens.

Mind blowing, right?

Much to my surprise, a trip to Rome with a day in Pompeii was only slightly more than going to London.

It was truly one of those "the dog just caught his tail" moments. I didn't know what to do at first. It was something that I'd always fantasized about but never truly thought would be possible.

But it is.

It's legit something that's on my bucket list.

Before I die I want to see the pyramids, I want to see Machu Picchu, and I want to see Pompeii.

So gosh darn it, I'm going to Rome and Pompeii next month!

I'm excited and a little anxious (but the good kind), and can't wait to see a number of things that I've always dreamed of seeing in person.

So what would be your Vacation of a Lifetime? There's still time to get registered to join us at Lefty's in Barnegat where you could end up choosing between Jamaica, Universal Orlando, and Rome. Hey, maybe we'll see each other in Italy!
