According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), wind and air pressure patterns and a warmer Atlantic Ocean have combined to create an active prediction for the upcoming season. As of right now, anywhere from 13 to 20 named storms are possible. While many of us aren't fully recovered from Superstorm Sandy, this is unwelcome news.

Storm Preparedness Expert Art Aiello has several things for people to remember.

"When it comes to getting yourself ready for any type of disaster, the key is having a game plan. First, property owners should inspect the integrity of their homes. If there are problems with the roof, doors, windows, etc, take steps to remediate them before the season starts."

During Sandy last year, one of the biggest issues was the power going off for thousands. Many of the outages lasted for several days - some places weeks and months. Aiello urges everyone to invest in some kind of backup generator.

Aiello wants everyone to head to ready.gov for more information and potentially life-saving tips.
