Authorities said 31-year-old Gerald Snyder was no longer driving his BMW, but instead had rented a U-Haul truck. Patrolman Jonathon Woolley spotted the truck in the parking lot of a restaurant on Route 524 that had been vacant for several years. The location was within walking distance of Snyder's apartment, police said.

Snyder was arrested at his residence at the Farmingdale Garden Apartments in Farmingdale. He's charged with burglary, eluding and criminal mischief.

On April 26, a neighbor of the Howell home that was broken into, told police she saw Snyder kick in the front door and leave the home with a jewelry box, then take off in a maroon colored BMW 528i.

Authorities blocked the BMW, but Snyder was able to jump a curb and get around the patrol car and escape after a high-speed chase through Farmingdale.

Snyder had been free on bail in connection with another residential burglary in another town. Police believe he may have committed as many as a dozen break-ins in Howell.
