How you can honor NJ’s slain Voice star, Christina Grimmie

Evesham Township will remember the Voice contestant and New Jersey native Christina Grimmie with a vigil Monday night. The service comes as pop star Selena Gomez's family offers condolences and support, and as her coach on "The Voice," Adam Levine, said he will pay for her funeral.

"I found out this morning, that Adam Levine personally called my mother and said he will pay for the funeral and her plane flight, and I was blown away," Grimmie's brother Marcus wrote on his Facebook page.

Evesham Mayor Randy Brown said he will be able to witness first hand "how much we appreciate her." He said that he is "distraught and devastated" by Grimmie's death and when he thinks about his own children age 7,9 and 25 can't fathom what the family is going through. "I can't imagine what it's like to bury a child," Brown said.

Brown said candles will be provided for Monday night's vigil at the Municipal Building which will start at 8:45 p.m. at the Memorial Complex. Marcus said he will be at the vigil.

"Evesham Township is shocked and saddened by the news of Christina Grimmie's death. She was one of Evesham's finest. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Grimmie family during this tragic time," the township wrote in a post on its Facebook page.

Grimmie was shot on Friday night by 27-year-old Kevin James Loibl in Orlando as she signed autographs and sold merchandise after a concert, according to Orlando Police.  Marcus was called a hero by police for tackling Loibl and preventing any additional injuries.

Selena Gomez, whose stepfather Brian Teefey managed Grimmie, paid tribute to her friend with Hillsong Worship’s song “Transfiguration" during a concert in Miami on Saturday night, according to Billboard writer Michele Amabile.

“When she was 14, we met her and my parents and I signed her," Gomez said according to accounts of the tribute. "One thing about Christina and her family is that she holds her faith so closely to her. And I think it’s not about a religion and it’s not about anything or good deeds. It’s just that she had faith, and I don’t really understand how this really happened."

Teefey, created a GoFundMe page before Levine's offer to assist the Grimmie family. He called her a "second daughter" on the page.

"All I wanted to do was assist her in achieving her musical dreams while protecting her from the pitfalls associated with the business. I never could have imagined this horrific event being one of the pitfalls needing to be avoided," Teefey wrote on the page which, has collected nearly $170,000 as of 2 p.m. on Monday.

Marcus said the family plans to move from their current home.

Police have said there is no connection between Grimmie and the shooting at the Pulse nightclub on early Sunday morning.
