I am a true believer that there are some things in life where you get what you pay for. I'm also a believer that sometimes I don't truly appreciate something until I've had the experience. To me, a fresh Thanksgiving turkey falls into those categories.

I used to work out at The Atlantic Club right between Routes 34 and 35 in Wall. Just before you get to the Route 35 circle at the end of Atlantic Ave, there's a small unassuming building next to a farm.

That small unassuming building changed how my family does Thanksgiving.

Hinck's Turkey Farm has been a Shore fixture for almost 80 years.

For us, it started with a stop for lunch while running errands on a Saturday afternoon.

After enjoying a turkey sandwich and speaking to some of the employees, they told us that a huge part of their business is fresh Thanksgiving turkeys.

We decided to give them a try that year for Thanksgiving, and I can tell you one thing for sure - once you go fresh, you'll never go back to frozen!

Now, of course there is a catch. A fresh, local turkey is going to cost you more than your standard grocery store Butterball. But, in my opinion, if you're going to indulge yourself once a year, this is the time of year to do it!

Have you ever gotten a fresh turkey instead of frozen for Thanksgiving? If so, where did you get it from? Tell us in the comments section!
