With Hanukkah now begun and Christmas on the horizon, most of us are in full holiday shopping mode. With so many high tech toys this year, how much is too much when it comes to a gift?

One of the hot items on many kids' wish lists this year are those "hoverboards", which don't come cheap - they run anywhere from about $175 all the way up to $600.

Game consoles like Xbox and Playstation 4 start at around $300 and can get close to $1,000, depending on the setup that you get.

Some families do a number of small to medium gifts, which can add up. While other families do one big gift.

Either way, the holidays can get really expensive really fast.
