More than 3 billion barrels of oil is recoverable on the outer continental shelf, along with more than 30 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. States stand to gain royalties from extraction of these natural resources, and drilling could create hundreds of jobs ~ U.S. Interior Department

There are plans possibly to extend offshore drilling and it could include the Jersey Shore. Governor Murphy along with New Jersey Senators Corey Booker & Bob Menendez oppose any offshore drilling projects. In a recent USNEWS.COM report from the Associated Press here are some of the facts/figures when it comes to dollars involved with New Jersey waters ...

  • Tourism is a $44 billion industry in New Jersey
  • Commercial fishing industry brings in $7.9 billion a year, supporting 50,000 jobs.
  • The state's tourism industry accounts for one out of 10 jobs in the state's workforce.

Officials noted this industry has continued to grow year after year.

Do you support increasing energy resources or feel the effects on the Jersey Shore outweigh the drilling?
