The current 18 Teachers of the Year in the Toms River district were saluted for making a difference in the lives of their students as they received proclamations from the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders which were presented by new Superintendent of Schools David Healy and Kathy Egan, the president of the Toms River Education Association.  The honored teachers were chosen by their peers last spring.

One of the highlights of the evening were speeches given by three high school seniors who were chosen as outstanding representatives of their schools.  All three talked about how teachers have played such a big role in their success and growth.

Randall Spillane from Toms River East, Sarah Musicant from High School North and South’s Timothy Werder are all ranked in the top ten of their class and boast resumes that were long and impressive. They were also surprised to receive $500 college scholarships from Student Loan Fund President Peter Van Dyke on behalf of the organization’s trustees. The Toms River Student Loan Fund has been in existence for 77 years and provides loans to graduates of the three high schools to help with their college education costs.
