In this edition of Hiking New Jersey with Shawn Michaels, we are taking you to the northern rim of the Pine Barrens. Turkey Swamp Park is located in Freehold Township and is part of the Monmouth County Park System and this one is a gem! There are about 8 miles of hiking trails, which are broken down to several smaller trails. The trails are well marked and there are maps available at the park.

The degree of difficulty is rather minimal, as most of the trails are packed fairly well and flat. There are a few occasions when there is slight elevation and density, but nothing too difficult. It is summer so be sure to wear insect repellent and sunblock.

Plenty of parking and restrooms. Plus if you want to spend more time then just hiking there are picnic areas for BBQ, children's playground and the lake for fishing and boating. You can rent paddle boats, row boats and/or kayaks for a fee.

Really enjoyed our trip to Turkey Swamp Park it is a great day trip and some relaxing hiking. Another great spot here at the Jersey Shore.
