A Howell man is sentenced 20 years behind bars Friday for killing a North Jersey police officer.

The 31 year old heroine addict was speeding and high on drugs when he slammed into Mount Arlington Police Officer Joseph Wargo Jr's patrol car back in October 2011.

The Asbury Park Press says Michael Casella declined to make a statement in court Friday and never apologized to the family and friends of Officer Wargo.  Cassella contends he has no memory of the crash.

The Howell resident is said to have multiple drug convictions and once tried to defraud a drug test.  Cassella pleaded guilty in January to causing Wargo's death by speeding on I-80 in Roxbury.

Cassella must serve 17 years in prison before parole consideration.
