A Manchester woman died on impact in a Tuesday head-on crash on Route 70 in the township.

Police say that Theresa McKeon of the township's Whiting section was westbound on the state highway near County Route 539 when her Kia collided with a Jaguar headed in the opposite direction about 4:50 PM. The Ocean County Medical Examiner's team pronounced her dead at the scene.

The driver of the Jaguar, June A. Schlegeimilch, 60, of Toms River, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

According to police, the victim's dog was in the car with her at the time and survived. It was treated at a nearby veterinarian's office.

Investigators kept traffic detoured for several hours on the highway between Route 539 and Hilltop Road.

Other responding units include the Whiting First Aid and Fire Departments, Mon-OC Paramedics, Manchester Animal Control officers, Quality Medical Transport, members of the Ocean County Prosecutors Office and Sheriff's Department, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
