Hazlet bank heist suspect indicted

The Middlesex Township man who allegedly held up a bank in Hazlet last October risks up to 20 years in prison if convicted at trial.

Stephen A. Fedorka, 34, of the Laurence Harbor section of Old Bridge, was indicted Monday by a Monmouth County grand jury in Freehold, according to the office of acting County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni.

The first-degree robbery charge in the indictment carries the possible 20-year prison term.

He would be required to serve 85 percent of the sentence before parole consideration and serve five years of parole supervision after release, authorities said.

A fourth-degree count of unlawful taking by means of conveyance bears a penalty of up to 18 months on conviction.

Fedorka is accused of entering the Santander branch at about 9:45 AM last October 28 and sliding a note to a teller. The note allegedly indicated that he was armed and demanded all the money in the cashier's drawer.

According to investigators, Fedorka took the money to his girlfriend's house near the bank, took her car and left the area.

He was arrested November 1, upon his return to the house to collect personal items, authorities said.
