ATLANTIC CITY - State Police captured a man who escaped from the back of a police vehicle in South Jersey early Sunday.

Daniel Newman 22, of Lawrenceville, Georgia was being taken to the Atlantic County Justice Facility in Hamilton, from the Golden Nugget casino in Atlantic City, early Sunday moring when he got out of the car while wearing handcuffs and ran into the woods, according to police. Newman had originally been arrested on theft related charges.

After releasing Newman's picture early Sunday afternoon  he was captured within an hour, according to police, who did not disclose details on where or how he was found. The Press of Atlantic City reported he was found in a McDonald's on the Black Horse Pike (Route 322).

The jail is surrounded by the Atlantic County Institute of Technology and the criminal court. There are homes not far from the jail, however, about a mile away along with thick woods to the south.
