Happy 49th Birthday to the first commercial radio station in Ocean County as it was on this date in 1968 that WOBM-FM began broadcasting from its old studios and office in Bayville.  We’re working on a big celebration for next year when 92.7FM turns 50!

On this first day of March some random notes and thoughts to share with you:

Yankee fans received some great news yesterday and it had nothing to do any players on the team but rather their ability to watch those players on TV.  Comcast announced in a statement that it will begin airing the YES Network on March 31st just in time for opening day.

A dispute between the cable provider and YES kept the Yankees off the air last season for some 900,000 Comcast subscribers in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.  The first Yankees broadcast on YES will be a March 31st exhibition game in Atlanta.

Even those strongly opposed to President Trump will have to admit his tone was more conciliatory during his address to congress last night and he appeared more presidential than at any time since he took office.  Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come.

Congratulations to Toms River High School East for being one of 23 schools named 2017 New Jersey Schools of Character.  The designation comes from the New Jersey Association for Social, Emotional and Character Development and Toms River East was the only school in Ocean County cited and the lone high school in the shore area.

Toms River East will be recognized during a conference in May and is also under consideration for national recognition along with 79 other schools from across the country.  The building principal is Pat Thomas.

It’s looking more and more like the big question regarding Mets captain David Wright is when he will formally announce his retirement.
