Just back from the 67th annual New Jersey Broadcasters Association Conference at Caesars in Atlantic City where yesterday I was a panelist as part of a Sports Symposium targeted for college students.

It was an impressive group of pros on the 11-man panel including Devils broadcaster Matt Loughlin, Philadelphia sports radio talk show host Paul “Jolly” Jolovitz, ESPN-New York’s Ryan Ruocco, WINS sports anchor Frank Garrity and former New York Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer, who is now working for NBC Sports Radio.

We shared stories with the students for more than 90 minutes and it was a fun way to wrap up the day which featured some good news for the Townsquare News Network.  Eric Scott’s team captured two of the four awards given out during the Best of the Best luncheon, earning accolades for their coverage of the Seaside Fire last September and the monthly “Ask the Governor” show that is carried on this station.

However for the second time in three years I came away feeling like Susan Lucci as the WOBM Christmas Classic was one of three finalist in the “Best Station Promotion” category only to lose out to another deserving entry.  I was not happy but then again I’m often not very happy.

The Berkeley Little League is busy getting ready to host the New Jersey State Junior and Senior Little League Tournaments from July 22-27 at their complex on Moorage Avenue in Bayville with TD Bank serving as the presenting sponsor.  Using the theme of the Best Beaches, Boardwalks and Baseball in the state the event opens with a welcome banquet that will feature a keynote address by former major leaguer Mark Leiter.

There will be a plenty of other activities for the players and their families who will be coming from all over New Jersey to compete for the championships which will culminate on Sunday, July 27.  Our Shore Sports Network will broadcast the title game in the junior division which will send their winner to Bristol, Connecticut and hopefully Williamsport, Pennsylvania after that. We are also serving as a media partner along with the Asbury Park Press and other tournament sponsors include Community Medical Center, Perl mart Family ShopRite’s and The Cove Waterfront Grill.
