TOMS RIVER - A man found semi-conscious in a rest room at the Ocean County Library here Tuesday was later treated for a drug overdose during hospitalization.

Multiple sources close to the incident confirm that the unidentified 28-year-old was discovered around 2 PM in a second-floor lavatory.

A patron him reported him as unconscious, but police and first-responders who arrived found him semi-conscious.

Toms River police and emergency medical staffers applied treatments on site, after which he was transferred to Community Medical Center on Route 37.

The incident occurred within days of an Associated Press report of an upsurge in public rest rooms, including libraries, for drug users, nationwide and in New Jersey.

Sources did not indicate what sort of drug might have been involved, or whether Naloxone (Narcan) was administered.

Students of Donovan Catholic High School were on site during the episode, but none were in the rest room at the time, a source said.

The individual's current health status is unknown.
