In a piece of news that was enthusiastically welcomed today, the Borough of Seaside Heights announced that the Mathis Bridge connecting the barrier island to the mainland has been fully reopened.

Just last week, officials promised that the bridge would be fully operational in time to handle the annual influx in traffic by Memorial Day weekend, and they've held to that promise with today's announcement.

It's been three years that the on-again, off-again closures impacted year-round residents and off-season visitors, sometimes backing traffic up for miles during rush hours.

It was only a few weeks ago that I named the Mathis Bridge as one of the 5 worst places in Ocean County for construction, so it's nice to be able to take that off the list! Now, how about we turn our attention to 166 and 37?
