Semifinal Round

7-Marlboro 72, 3-Toms River North 60

Marlboro (6-0) opened the second half with a 13-4 outburst to erase a 32-30 halftime deficit and seize a 43-36 lead that it never relinquished. The Mustangs, who average 11 3-pointers a contest, were limited to three in the first half but found their stroke during the decisive tear.

Sophomore guard and junior guard Sam Nocco sandwiched a pair of treys around another by senior forward Theresa Besso to fuel the uprising. Sammy Jay sparked the charge with a triple to open the third.

Besso and sophomore forward Jessica Riepe ended with 13 points apiece, Jay netted 12 and senior guard Gisella Romeo chipped in with 11.

Senior forward Jenna Paul led all scorers with 21 for Toms River North (5-1). Senior guard Brielle Bisogno had 16 points, including a wild fadeaway 3-pointer that kissed off glass to end the opening quarter, and junior swing Kristina Johnson netted 13.

1-Manchester 95, 4-Ewing 73

Senior guard Leilani Correa exploded for seven 3-pointers en route to a season-high 31 points for the defending champion Hawks (6-0). The 6-0 West Virginia recruit buried five in the opening quarter to fuel a 25-13 rush.

Sophomore swing Destiny Adams pumped in 25 points and senior forward Dakota Adams chipped in with 15 for Manchester. Senior guard Kemari Reynolds supplied all nine of her points in the first half and Nahkaleigh Hayes-Jones came off the bench to score eight.

 

Consolation Round

10-Neptune 50, 11-Toms River South 44

Junior Macy Brackett scored eight of her game-high 22 points during a 17-10 second quarter that staked Neptune (4-2) to a 25-20 lead. She added eight more points in the fourth when the Scarlet Fliers finished on a 19-13 note.

Freshman guard Amaya Evans netted seven of her 11 points in the second half for Neptune. Senior forward Shiloh Williams scored 12 points and senior guard Caitlin Carroll had 10 for Toms River South (3-3).

9-Donovan Catholic 52, 13-Sayreville 48

Jayda Kearney dropped in 19 points, Jordyn Keating scored 17 and Paige Slaven ended with a dozen to power the Griffins.

15-Central 48, 14-Brick Memorial 36

Central (2-3) pumped the breaks on a three-game losing skid by topping Brick Memorial (0-6) for a second time this season.

The Golden Eagles benefited from the balanced scoring of Kayla Krzyzkowski (11 points), Mercedes Corbin (nine points), Kristi Truhan (nine points) and Martine Chevalier (eight points).

Corbin accounted for six points while Chevalier and Truhan scored five apiece during a 20-9 showing in the second quarter that gave Central a 29-19 edge.

Ella Moore paced Brick Memorial (0-6) with 11 points.

16-Wall 42, 12-Point Boro 29

Abby Nonnenberg scored five of her game-high 12 points in the third quarter when Wall (1-5) used a 12-5 effor to open a 24-14 cushion. Nyasia Mayes chipped in with nine points and Lauren Lacey added eight for the Crimson Knights.

Quarterfinal Round

Thursday, December 27

3-Toms River North 43, 6-Colts Neck 33

Senior point guard Brielle Bisogno struck for 21 points and senior swing Jenna Paul added 15 for the Mariners (5-0).

Paul, who finished with seven rebounds and two assists, accounted for the first eight points deposited by Toms River North and Bisogno supplemented her output by sinking the next five to forge a 13-3 cushion with 3:14 showing in the first quarter. A 3-pointer by Bisogno two minutes into the second quarter increased the lead to 20-10.

Freshman guard Sydney Howell supplied six rebounds and classmate Faith Wavershak cleared an additional six boards for Toms River North.

Junior guard Camryn Foltz paced Colts Neck (3-1) with 18 points and seven rebounds and Eva Gibson grabbed 13 boards for the Cougars.

Sophomore guard Sammy Jay punctuated her 22-point performance by going 8 of 10 from the foul line in the fourth quarter to help seal the victory for the Mustangs (5-0).

Marlboro led by as much as 39-17 in the first half, converting a string of 10 Middletown South turnovers into 20 points. However, Middletown South withstood the barrage and gradually clawed its way back, drawing to as close as 62-60 with 16.9 left before Jay closed out matters with four foul shots down the stretch.

Jessica Riepe netted 14 points and Gisella Romeo scored 13 for Marlboro. Stephanie Mayerhofer topped Middletown South (3-1) with 15 points and Emily McCarthy contributed 10 for the Eagles.

4-Ewing 61, 5-Red Bank 58 (OT)

Lowe and Tamia Warner each had six points during a 23-16 third quarter that vaulted Ewing in front, 48-46, but Red Bank answered in the fourth behind Caitlyn Decker, who dropped in seven of her 11 points in the period to help forge a 56-56 deadlock.

Meghan Murray ended with a game-high 23 points for Red Bank (3-1), 15 of which fell in the first half. Myasia Jackson scored 15 and Warner had 14 for Ewing. .

1-Manchester 64, 8-Toms River East 30

Junior point guard Kemari Reynolds buried five 3-pointers in an effortless perimeter display and totaled 24 points as the defending champion Hawks (5-0) cruised into the semifinals.

Senior forward Dakota Adams supplied 12 points, sophomore swing Destiny Adams added 10 and Nahkaleigh Hayes-Jones came off the bench to net eight.

Reynolds set an early tone with two triples and eight points in the first quarter to spark a 22-5 outburst. By halftime, she accumulated 19 to drive a 39-14 surge by Manchester.

Senior guard Kamryn Lister had 11 points and junior guard Jordyn Madigan deposited nine for Toms River East (3-2).

Clayton 50, Asbury Park 31

The Blue Bishops fell to 0-4 despite 20 points from senior Deyonna Carter.

1-MIddletown North 39, 8-Manalapan 33

Olivia Cerbo had 13 points and 10 rebounds while Melissa Golembieski added 10 points to spark the Lions (4-1) to a fourth straight win.

5-Howell 66, 4-Northern Burlington 52

Senior guard Jessica O'Brien pumped in a season-high 23 points and sophomore guard Grace Leary chipped in with 10 as Howell (3-1) notched its second straight win.

3-Freehold Twp. 55, 6-Pinelands 22

Sophomore Hannah Orloff, a 6-2 center, dropped in a season-best 22 points, ripped down a dozen rebounds and posted her fourth straight double-double for the Patriots (3-1), who picked up their third straight win behind a 17-2 blitz in the first quarter.

Emily Tran offered 11 points and Tanya Ellsbree finished with nine for Freehold Twp.

Katie McGrotty topped Pinelands (1-3) with 10 points.

2-Shore 39, 7-CSI/McCown 27

Sophomore guard Madison LaRosa powered Shore (3-2) to a second consecutive win with 12 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Chloe Wollman was busy in the victory, picking up six points, five rebounds, two assists, a blocked shot and six steals.

Senior forward Alicia Croswell paced a balanced offensive effort by the Titans (3-3) with nine points. Sophomore guard Mackenzie Smith scored eight and junior forward Aaliyah Coleman netted seven for Keansburg, which used an 11-6 third quarter to open a 23-15 margin.

Senior guard Kerry Harper poured in 21 for Henry Hudson (1-7).

Morgan Bartlett paced a evenly-dispensed offense for Ocean (2-4) with 11 points. Alex Ardizzone added eight points on the strength of two 3-pointers. The Spartans crafted a 35-19 lead through three quarters.

4-Long Branch 42, 3-Monmouth 21

Jada Rogers delivered a game-high 18 points and cleared seven rebounds for Long Branch (2-2), which used a 23-8 rush that spanned the second and third quarters to build a 35-19 lead.

Sol Margaret Navarro chipped in with 11 points, six rebounds, four steals and three assiss for the Green Wave.

7-Lacey 58, 2-Old Bridge 47

Allie Toth pumped in 18 points and Hayley Ocskasy dropped in 17 to fuel the Lions (3-2) to the upset and their second straight win. Lacey turned a 19-3 outburst in the third quarter into a 45-28 lead.

8-Jackson Liberty 37, 1-Barnegat 26

The Lions (2-3) used a fast start to spring the upset and pocket their second straight win.

Sophomore Maura Carney supplied Jackson Liberty with 13 points, six rebounds and four steals while senior guard Hailey McGee connected on three 3-pointers en route to 11 points to complement four rebounds and three steals.

The Lions took command from the outset, building a 12-0 lead after one quarter.

The Purple Roses (4-0) bounced back from a sluggish start to upend the Celtics.

Junior swing Brynn Farrell scored 23 and senior guard Lauren Lithgow netted 14 for St. Rose, which answered the Patrick School's 11-4 start with a 17-6 rebuttal in the second quarter to grab a 21-17 lead.

Lithgow knocked down four 3-pointers and Farrell backed up her offensive output with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals. Maureen Stapleton grabbed eight rebounds in the win.

Rumson-Fair Haven 53, Gill St. Bernard’s 45

The Bulldogs (3-2) were sharp from beyond the arc, piling up 11 pointers, on course to the victory.

Cortland McBarron, Sophia Passalaqua and Grace Munt all drained three triples in the contest. Junior forward Lucy Adams collected a game-high 17 points and 11 rebounds, Munt finished with 16 points, 10 boards and five assists and McBarron grabbed 11 caroms to go with nine points.

St. John Vianney 53, vs. Staten Island Academy (NY) 37

Senior guard Rahmena Henderson pumped in a team-high 14 points and added five rebounds and three steals while senior point guard Sarah Karpell delivered 12 points as the Lady Lancers (4-0) outscored Staten Island Academy, 26-10, in the second half, including an 8-0 close in the fourth

Red Bank Catholic was fueled by its perimeter punch. The Caseys sank nine 3-pointers.

Shanna Devlin was multi-tasking force for the unbeaten Red Raiders (5-0), collecting a team-high 15 points as well as seven rebounds, six steals and three assists in the championship.

Algeria Kelley and Giana Piccini each dropped in nine points and combined for nine rebounds while Alexis Breen contributed six points, six rebounds and five assists.

Keyport used a 15-9 showing in the second quarter to wipe out a one-point deficit and take a 26-21 lead into intermission.

3-Holmdel 38, 5-Mater Dei 30

Holmdel (2-4) made the most of its trips to the foul line by converting 20 of 25 free throws. Carson Fontana went 9 of 11 at the stripe and scored team-high 11 as the Hornets scored their second straight win.

Katie Zoda canned three 3-pointers - she has 23 for the season - and led all scorers with 15 for Mater (4-2).
