Here’s a great way to make sure your child reads this summer: pair your child up with a Teen Reading Buddy at Ocean County Library’s Toms River branch.....Studies show that children who do not read over the summer lose more than two months of reading achievement. The Reading Buddies Program is a great way to make sure your child will be ready for the new school year.

This program is free and is open to all Ocean County children who are entering grades 1 to 4. Buddy pairs meet once a week on the same day and same time each week. The library has trained enthusiastic teen volunteers available to spend one-on-one time reading with your child. They will help your child choose books as well as share their own childhood favorites and provide your child with a stress-free, enjoyable way to practice reading.

They are accepting applications for both the Teen Buddy volunteers and Kid Buddy readers. To register come to the Toms River Branch and fill out an application or print out the application on the library’s website www.theoceancountylibrary.org  and bring it to the Toms River Branch. The deadline for applications has been extended to June 12th. For more information telephone Kelsea Rowan  or Dom Corcuera  at 732-349-6200 ext. 5203.
