Gators, Badgers Advance to Final Four
The Florida Gators have advanced to the NCAA Final Four after three straight near-misses. They’ll also be the only No. 1 seed playing in the national semifinals following Wisconsin’s victory over Arizona.
The Gators earned a trip to Dallas and ended Dayton’s surprising run in the tournament by downing the 11th-seeded Flyers 62-52 to win the South Regional in Memphis. Scottie Wilbekin scored 14 of his game-high 23 points in the first half as the Gators picked up their 30th consecutive victory. Patric Young added 12 and seven rebounds to help Florida finally reach the national semifinals after three straight exits in the regional finals.
Dyshawn Pierre had a team-high 18 points for the Flyers, who had advanced to the Elite Eight with wins against Ohio State, Syracuse and Stanford.
The Badgers cut down the nets as West Regional winners following their 64-63 overtime triumph against top seed Arizona. Frank Kaminsky had 28 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Badgers to their first Final Four since 2000. Traevon Jackson was the only other Wisconsin player to score in double figures, finishing with 10 on 4 of 14 shooting.
Nick Johnson led the Wildcats with 16 points but was unable to release a shot before the final buzzer. Aaron Gordon had 18 rebounds for Arizona.
